Healthcare is at the heart of the community, along with our churches. The new hospital brings with it new technology which will enhance the great quality medical care we have here now. As we age, we want to have quality care close to home so we don't have to travel to get the care we need. The new hospital will benefit the region because it will attract quality caregivers (physicians) and will also attract new people and new businesses to the region. The things people and businesses look for when locating is, schools, churches and healthcare.

I have been a resident of Hancock County all my life. It's always been a great comfort to me knowing we had such an outstanding hospital and wonderful doctors right here, close to home. Now Memorial Hospital is looking ahead, to the next generation it will serve. It's important that we support the hospital in this effort. We all want excellent medical care for those we love, now and in the future."

As a lifelong resident of Hancock County, I have chosen to receive my medical services from Memorial Hospital because I have always been treated with respect and dignity. What an honor it is for me to be involved in helping to build a new state of the art facility, which will serve future generations for years to come! Let’s all do what we can to help.

Our lives changed on Jan.28, 2008 when I fell and received life-threatening injuries to my head. Thanks to the rapid response from the Hancock County Ambulance in Carthage and the quick decision to contact Air Evac, my life was saved. Less than 2 weeks later, Bev needed the ambulance and was admitted promptly to Memorial Hospital. What a blessing Memorial Hospital has been to our family. The new hospital will serve us for many years to come.

We met at Memorial Hospital back in 1959, after Bill underwent an appendectomy with Dr. Coeur. He later relapsed, and Ruth visited him during recovery. It was the beginning of our relationship and a relationship with the hospital. Three of our four children were later born at Memorial Hospital. Their surgeons and ER personnel performed tonsillectomies, set the broken noses and sprained ankles, applied the stitches, and treated all the other medical events that are part of childhood. We were especially thankful to the hospital when Bill had serious insecticide poisoning in the late 1980s. Poison Control in a large city hospital failed us, but Dr McKenney at Memorial Hospital had the antidote on hand that saved Bill’s life in a matter of minutes. Memorial Hospital is invaluable to our family and community. That’s why we have pledged our financial support. We want to be a small part of the betterment of this hospital.

I have been a resident of Hancock County near Bowen, Illinois since 1949 and I have watched Memorial Hospital age as I have. Regardless of good care, the elements wear out. We can cosmetic our problems for only a timed period. Luckily a building can be replaced, our bodies cannot. I recently experienced a life threatening illness and was rushed to Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room. Qualified medical staff stabilized my condition before being sent on by Air Evac. Memorial Hospital is a vital link to our good health and well-being. We need your support and contribution towards building a new hospital for all our stages of life.

We were impressed by the services & convenience Memorial Hospital offered. It was like a larger hospital but smaller with a family orientated atmosphere which extended beyond the employees to the patients.. Both of our children were delivered by Dr. Korte at Memorial Hospital. We have gone through our share of illnesses, stitches & surgeries at the hospital always receiving the needed care & support. The caring, knowledge & dedication of the medical staff & employees of Memorial Hospital have made a big difference in our lives. We would like to see the hospital continue to grow. Please help insure the future of healthcare in our area. Why go outside of our area for care that can happen at our back door with the latest technology, a diverse range of physicians, health care providers and an educated staff who make you feel like family.

As a business owner in Carthage for over fifty years, I know the importance of having a quality health care facility in this community. While businesses come & go, Memorial Hospital has been an anchor in this community, supporting many families and providing excellent health care. A quality health care facility is vital to insure that this area continues to prosper and attract people to live and work here.

A couple of years ago while in Tucson, A, I had a stroke. Luckily, my motor skills were not compromised. However, my memory and emotions were affected. After three months of therapy in Arizona, I was able to return to Carthage. Without as much as a tiny glitch, my therapy continued at Memorial Hospital. Doctors in Tucson consulted with Dr. McKenney and my rehabilitation continued at Memorial Hospital’s Evergreen Center.
Less than a year later Dr. McKenney discovered I had some arterial blockage and heart problems. Testing at Memorial Hospital and at its affiliate St. Francis in Peoria determined I had 5 blocked arteries. Surgery took place at St. Francis but 95% of the follow-up including a couple of months of cardio therapy took place right here in Carthage at Memorial Hospital. Janet and I made just one follow-up trip to Peoria. The cardiologist from St. Francis came here to Memorial Hospital. Dr. Rabjohn and the other doctors from St. Francis made Dr. McKenney and Memorial Hospital an integral part of the rehabilitation team.
We are truly fortunate to have such a respected medical facility here in Carthage. When one is recovering from a medical emergency, it’s good to be at home. Memorial Hospital is almost home to me.
I urge everyone to support the construction of a new facility. Talk it up to your friends and neighbors and do what you can to support the project financially. You may never need its services. Two years ago, I didn’t think I would.

Thirty years ago, I moved into this community from the Chicago area after school to start our family. Twenty years ago, I became a member of Memorial Hospital’s family. I have been associated with them ever since. I work alongside true professionals. In Matthew 5:41 Christ tells us to go the extra mile. In this organization, they do that automatically. I have always been healthy and never thought that I would have to be on the other side of things, but one day that happened in a flash. I was taken care of so well here, from paramedics, to nursing, to radiology, surgery, physicians, we have recently had to go to one of our affiliates with my granddaughter and the care continues... The physicians and mid-levels are some of the most up to date, well equipped men and women that I have had the honor to work with. The staff is a grade above all others. They are caring, educated, experienced and proficient professionals. I am proud to work alongside them, and even more so, I bring the most precious gifts that God has given me, my grandchildren, to them. A couple weeks ago, I was taking care of a young patient and his statement says it all “This Hospital has everything” This community is blessed to have Memorial Hospital; I support the new facility… I hope you will as well.

Like many other rural areas, Hancock County relies on the people & resources of every community in the region to grow & stay strong. Nowhere is that more apparent than with Memorial Hospital. It has been 60 years since we built our regional hospital, & we are now in need of updating this necessary component of our region’s health care system.
The building of our new hospital gives us the opportunity to stay geographically close to cutting edge technology & facilities that will be available to all area residents. I encourage everyone in each community within the service area to become knowledgeable about the project, ask questions about the plans, and support the new Memorial Hospital to the extent that you are able. Having a state-of-the-art medical facility nearby (in other words, “Caring Professionals, Close to Home”) is something we can all be proud of!

Over the years of being residents of Hancock County, we have had more visits to Memorial Hospital Emergency Room than we would have wished, but each time we received excellent care quickly.
The convenience of having a hospital in town within easy reach of most residents cannot be underestimated. Having lived in several large cities with hospital emergency rooms where you may wait for many hours for care and where staff are strangers, does not compare to care at a smaller local hospital with long-time staff members, many of whom you know and trust.
Our young grandson, who lives in the Chicago area, was recently see in the E.R. for an illness, and our son and daughter-in-law were very impressed with the attention he received and the excellent care and concern from the nurses and Dr. Hambrick.
We urge everyone in the community and county to support the new hospital fundraising effort in whatever way they can. We are so lucky to have a facility and staff of such high caliber in Hancock County.
